About Us
When Australia met Spain
Maria is from a small village in the North of Spain, in a province called Soria, nestled between the Spain’s largest and most renowned wine regions, La Rioja & La Ribera del Duero. Soria is the most famous destination for picking up mushrooms as porcini, pine mushrooms, chanterelle or marzuelos (a type of mushroom that grows in March) and also the place where most of the truffles come from.
She spent her childhood assisting in her parent’s bar learning to recreate some of Spain’s most tempting delights that passed down generations.
You may recognise Byron from his time as a finalist on Masterchef Australia where he demonstrated his life-long passion for food and cooking. Learning from celebrated chefs during his time on the show, he was prompted to pursue a prestigious position at the world famous French cooking school, Le Cordon Bleu, in Sydney. It was here where he gained his coveted chef qualification.
The two travelled back to Spain where Byron moonlighted in some of Spain’s top restaurants in between his time as a hired chef for the rich and famous on a140ft super-yacht, travelling through the Mediterranean waters.
Byron and Maria now want to share their Foodie secrets with you from their stunning property on the scenic Mornington Peninsula. In small boutique cooking classes, you will have the opportunity to work with the freshest of ingredients from the Peninsula, some sourced straight from Byron’s beloved vegetable garden and the couple’s delightful chooks named Frosty and Andrea.
